Joint Pain Treatment at NJ Spine and Wellness

Are you experiencing joint pain? If so, you are not alone. This is an extremely common issue especially as you get older. Any damage to the joints from disease or injury can interfere with your movement and cause a lot of pain. Knee pain tends to be the most common complaint, followed by shoulder and hip pain, but joint pain can affect any part of your body from your ankles and feet to your shoulders and hands.

Osteoarthritis is one condition that can cause joint pain. The most common form of arthritis, Osteoarthritis affects millions of people and occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down over time. This disorder most often affects joints in your hands, knees, hips and spine, but can cause damage to any joint in your body.

Symptoms of Joint Pain & Osteoarthritis

  • Pain and Tenderness: The pain in early arthritis can usually be classified into two categories – pain and tenderness. You might feel a sharp pain when you begin to move the affected joint in a certain way. For example, if you begin to feel discomfort from regular routine activities such as opening a jar with hands or fingers.
  • Joint Stiffness: Along with joint pain comes stiffness. Joint stiffness is normal when you first wake up or have been sitting at your desk all day, but it can also be a sign of early osteoarthritis. Individuals that suffer from early Osteoarthritis often feel better when they start their day with some non-intensive exercises to warm up their joints.
  • Abnormal Sensations: Cartilage is meant to be a shock absorber that helps your joints move smoothly. When cartilage wears down, the bone-to-bone rubbing can produce a number of abnormal sensations. Grinding of the joints is common in Osteoarthritis patients and is the manifestation of the bones rubbing together.
  • Loss of Flexibility: People in the early stages of arthritis may notice that moving the affected areas of their bodies is not as easy as it once was. Stiffness and pain can contribute to loss of flexibility and loss of range of motion.
